On 10 September, OpenAI announced Data agent for ChatGPT Work. It can connect to approved company data, investigate a question and build interactive dashboards. Administrators choose the connections and roles.
The launch does not replace the work before reporting. It helps once a useful question, agreed definitions and clear data access are already in place.

What it can do
It can turn an approved question into analysis and a dashboard within allowed connections.
What you must decide
Agree the client decision and who may see the data before connecting it. Choose the measure that would change the next meeting.
Why it matters here
Small agencies rarely have an analyst between the account team and the data. The person building the report needs the client decision first.
A neat dashboard is wasted if it changes no meeting or action. Ask what will change if the number moves. If nothing changes, do not connect the data.
Try this on your next project
The account lead and client owner take 30 minutes to choose one decision a weekly report should change before anyone connects a source.
01
Name the client decision
02
Choose the one measure
03
Check who may see it
04
Plan the meeting it changes
Try it now
We need to decide whether to increase a client's paid social budget this month. We have campaign spend, leads and sales data. Tell me which figures matter, what each misses, and the first check needed before recommending a change.

The Client Report Playbook
Build a report around the decision the client needs to make.
Members get every briefing five weeks earlier.
They had this one while there was still time to act on it. In AI, a month is a long time: this week’s briefing is already with them.
